Great location for visiting Charlevoix and Petoskey area! 
We opted to stay in the carriage house so we had a fireplace, so cozy! The king bed was comfortable and the walk in shower with rain shower head was great. Loved waking up and seeing all the deer feeding at the stream and apple trees.  
We had breakfast delivered each morning to our room ($10) and we loved enjoying it by the fire.  Wonderful breakfasts included quiche, Belgian waffles and lemon blueberry pancakes. 
Staff were friendly and helpful and were happy to help.  
The trails on the property were beautiful but have no trail markers.  Also the web site needs to be updated.

Great Location

LOVE this place!  2nd time there.  Rooms are clean and comfortable.  The porch is great!!  Marcia is an exceptional host and chef!!  The top notch breakfasts were amazing!  Sorry to learn she has sold the place.  We wish the new owners the best of luck!

The BEST B&B!!

House on the Hill, what can we say... our first time visiting northern Michigan which was beautiful and then having the opportunity to stay at the House on the Hill made it the most memorable experience.  From the moment we arrived, we couldn’t help but feel the warmth and hospitality of the innkeeper, Marci.  Our room was lovely, and our view was superb.  If you want to experience nature at its best, choose a room with a deck so you can enjoy sitting and watching the family of deer in the meadow along with the babbling brook.  Expect a visit every evening and sometimes in the late afternoon.  Every morning we had a delicious homemade breakfast prepared by Marci.  Not only is she an incredible host but a very talented chef.  We had a lovely table each morning adored with linen napkins and all the accoutrements along with a view of the lake.  During our stay, Marci was extremely helpful and informative about things to see and places to dine.  On our last night, Marci was kind enough to secure a reservation for us at a much sought after establishment, thank you again.  Sincerely, Brian and Sandy

Wonderful B&B, must visit

House on the Hill is a lovely retreat destination. The House is exceptionally well maintained. Our room was bright and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed the large porch in the evening. Even though the B&B was full, we never felt crowded nor our privacy compromised. We highly recommend House on the Hill.

A tranquil lovely B&B

Our first trip to Michigan and it certainly did not disappoint. House on the hill. B&B was amazing. So relaxing and comfortable. It was just peaceful. Sitting on the front porch reading and looking out over the water across the street. The breakfast offered is totally amazing. What an awesome cook! There was a daily breakfast you could choose or if you did not want that there were some other side breakfasts that you could also pick so you weren’t stuck with what was being made that day but I’m telling you that’s what we chose every day, and we did never go wrong on that. It was so good . It was a great location to see Charlevoix and Petoskey and of course Ellsworth. Would definitely recommend to anybody going to this area. Plenty of room to relax and enjoy yourself inside or outside. The owners were very hospitable. We truly enjoyed our time there. 

Relaxing Vacation 

This property is a destination that you won’t want to miss. The owners make your stay enjoyable from the minute you check in to your room and see homemade chocolate chip cookies. Breakfasts are homemade and a true foodies dream. Plus they give you an option of what you’d like to eat (from 3 different choices). The breakfasts are top notch and if you’re lucky enough to get a table by the window you can enjoy the view of the lake. 

There are trails and acres to explore on the property with a creek running through. We were able to see a momma deer and her 2 babies. It’s so peaceful and quiet back there. 

The bed was comfy (which usually is hard to find at B&B). The rooms are a decent size and Birch overlooks the lake. We loved just relaxing at the end of the day in there. 

The front porch is huge and overlooks the lake as well. It’s a perfect place for breakfast or to play a card game. 

Truly this place is special because of the owners, their attention to details and their smiling personalities. Top notch service and friendliest place we’ve stayed. It’s a true gem.

Wedding Anniversary

Had a wonderful experience staying at this delightful B & B. We stayed in the Carriage House in the Aspen Room. It was spotless and warm and inviting. Enjoyed the homemade delicious breakfasts and the coffee and snack bar. The hosts were so accommodating. Would highly recommend it!

Wonderful B & B in beautiful surroundings

This was our first visit to House on the Hill, but we already booked for next year. We stayed in the Maple Room, and it was very pleasant -- and the fireplace was handy as the northern Michigan fall evenings and mornings can be brisk. The house is very nice with ample room for reading and relaxing, including the beautiful front porch. Marci's breakfasts are excellent, so satisfying that we skipped lunch. We’re golfers so Ellsworth provides a central location to visit courses at Shanty Creek, Boyne, and Petoskey. Likewise, there's many excellent restaurants within a 30-minute drive. We particularly enjoyed the Walloon Lake Inn. Marci and Phillip are very experienced innkeepers, and we highly recommend their B & B. As I said at the beginning, we're looking forward to returning next year.

Can't Wait to Return Next Year

The House on the Hill is a charming and welcoming place to stay in upper Michigan. This was a girls trip, mostly to visit 
Mackinaw  Island and check it off the bucket list! Marci and Phil are great hosts, always accommodating; they make you feel completely at home on their beautiful property.  I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting this area, and I hope to go back again, in the future!

Summer Girls Trip

In the evening, we sat outside next to the stream and watched a Doe and Fawn enjoy the apples from a nearby tree.  We listened to the stream and watched the sunset.  In the morning we were treated to the best breakfast we have had in a very long time.  

We will certainly stay here again.  Marci and Phillip are friendly, gracious hosts.
