Inn at Discovery Coast

This was our 8th year in a row coming to the Adrift/Inn properties. This year we stayed in the Beach House and were disappointed with our experience. The room showed significant wear and tear (like chunks of wood missing from furniture, splinters, unpainted wall patches) and the noise from the upstairs suite was really loud. The room was also significantly dusty in corners and above light fixtures.

They have also clearly downgraded the benefits of their loyalty program, which they did without any heads up. (I have received notice from other loyalty programs when benefits have changed.) We used to love the breakfast platter...which is now only 2 vouchers for espresso and a box of caramels. The benefit program benefits is one of the reasons we kept coming back and it was hard to see this get such a swift downgrade.

The staff are really lovely and the location is truly unbeatable. Also, the pool is a nice addition!

It's disappointing to see that the hospitality group's growth has come at the expense of quality and the previously generous benefits program. We've never considered going elsewhere but I would say that the amenities of the Inn are not worth the expense and if you're going, stay at The Adrift, definitely don't stay in the beachouse.

Diminished quality but great location

If you look back to 2018, you'll find a 5 star review from me. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't the same this year - which is so sad because we've been coming back to Inn at Discovery Coast for years. We consider it our special place for our anniversary. This year, it definitely was missing some magic. 

We loved the room service breakfasts that used to come with our stay. Then it was limited to 1 breakfast per stay. Then they were available only for purchase. Now, breakfast is available in the lobby and it's pastries or egg bites. The cozy baskets are gone.

We loved the classic white, oversized spa robes. My husband is 6'1" and needs a large robe. The robes are now a light gray hoodie material and too small for him. 

The toilet paper is terrible quality, and the toiletries have changed. Even the towels and bedding were looking flimsy and threadbare, and one of our towels was torn. 

There is no longer an honor bar with cool snacks. 

The shining lights of our stay were the Pickled Fish staff. Our bartender made an awesome drink - the Love Flight - and our server, Brittany, was awesome. Of course the food was delicious - we've always loved Pickled Fish. We were surprised that there wasn't live music on Valentine's Day, though, and the hostess seemed annoyed when we requested a table in the window (we had reservations, and it was our Anniversary - which I specified in the reservation). 

Overall, it just didn't feel the same. The things that made it special seem to be going away, which makes us sad. It's a nice enough hotel, but there are many just like it now. We miss the old experience.

A bit of a let-down

The room was incredible. We had a 3rd floor room and the views are amazing. Bed was comfortable and room set up well. The only negative was the parking lot. Way too small. If you have a full sized truck you will not be able to fit it in the lot. I needed to park at the Adrift and walk over.

Great room

Unfortunately, property amenities have continued to go downhill since my last stay. The Inn used to offer complimentary breakfast delivery to every room during every stay, and then it changed and the complimentary breakfast delivery was offered as a complimentary perk once per stay only to guests with a certain tier of loyalty. Now, complimentary breakfast delivery is not offered at all and guests with higher loyalty tiers are only given a bag of caramel corn and a voucher for 2 complimentary espresso drinks at the new espresso bar in the lobby.

The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful in explaining the loyalty program changes. However it's deeply disappointing to see loyalty perks downgraded, especially without adequate advance communication of the changes.

Loyalty Perks Downgraded

Nice room on a quiet beach of this busy funky beach town. We had cold foggy weather but I could see how this would be a fun spot in summer: funky dinky putt putt golf, go carts, bikes and horse rides in walking distance. Town has bright colors and lots of shops. Fun bakery,and candy stores. It was our last stop on our trek around the Northwest, the last night before our flights out of Seattle.

This hotel really pushed the No-contact concept so be prepared. It works, just doesn’t feel like great service. We requested and did pick up keys in person at the affiliated Adrift Hotel next door. Never saw anyone but guests after that. The room was spacious, well appointed in a modern rustic style. Bed very comfy. The bathroom is not very private; there are two barn doors that do nothing for sound mitigation. They provided nice ground coffee and French press which we appreciated!

We loved our stay at Inn at Discovery Coast. Our room decor was exactly like a beach cabin. The location on the beach was perfect and the sunset was beautiful. The hotel provided complimentary bikes to use, which was perfect for exploring through the beach trails. Would stay here again.

Beach Vibes

This is associated with the adjacent Adrift Hotel but in a separate building. A spacious room with fantastic beach view. Very good bath amenities. The room has a small balcony and a couple of chairs to watch the sunset. Easy access to a great spa and restaurant

Best beach view

We stayed three nights at three different properties owner by this company. The Inn at Discovery Coast was definitely the best room. We stayed in a first floor corner room. The noise from above was definitely the worst part of our stay. 
The bed was heaven: so comfortable. The french-press coffee was great and there were even some cream packets in the refrigerator (way better than the powder "whitener" most often found at hotels). The jetted bath tub was divine and I enjoyed it twice over our one night stay. The room is rustic with wood simply hammered into the walls, but with that comfortable bed and pillows and the wonderful tub, it felt worth the expensive price tag.  The properties include a "resort fee" to cover costs of their free rental bikes,  pool, sauna, and beverage station in the main lobby.

Happy to have found this Inn

We choose this hotel based on the reviews listed here, and we were not disappointed! We had a 2nd Floor Corner Room with balcony facing the ocean. (All the rooms in this building have ocean facing balconies.)

The bed is super comfortable, the jetted bathtub was nice, large and deep with a separate shower area, and plenty of hot water!

We loved the microwave and small fridge, so cute and they worked well. There is not really a coffee maker in the room, there is a hot kettle and instant coffee & tea, but they do server fresh coffee in the reception starting at 5am. We brought our potable Keurig with us, so we did not mind.

Rooms are quiet, our building was fully booked yet we never once heard the guests above or next to us.
The Wi-Fi strength was good we had no issues.

There is no air conditioning, generally not needed on the WA coast as temperatures rarely get above 65F/68F and there is almost always a good stiff breeze blowing. We just opened the windows and sliding door to the balcony and got a nice cross breeze through the room which made it comfortable. 

The heated saltwater swimming pool was amazing, we spend several hours there during our 2-day stay. 

You can walk right down to the beach within minutes or to the boardwalk tail to the main beach area where the giant kites are flown.

We ate one night at the hotel restaurant, “Pickled Fish” the food quality was excellent, serving were good size, menu selection is limited.
Several of the seafood items on the menu we had hoped to enjoy were not available. :)
The next night we had dinner at Drop Anchor Seafood & Grill, definitely recommend going there if you are looking for seafood options!
Servicing sizes are huge, staff and service exceptional. Food was excellent!

We will definitely stay at the Inn at Discovery Coast again

Rustic Luxury

I've stayed at the Inn at Discovery Coast several times, and previously it was a truly wonderful 5/5 place to stay, but now it's just a solid 4/5.

The location remains fantastic, with the rooms in the ocean-front building having wonderful views directly onto the dunes and ocean (be careful booking because there are 3 buildings in total, and only 1 is ocean-front).  The pool and barrel sauna are fantastic and one of the biggest things that sets this property apart from other area lodging options. The property remains dog-friendly for certain rooms.

Unfortunately, the Inn previously offered complimentary breakfast baskets delivered to each room every morning, and this is no longer offered. When I expressed surprise at this change at check-in, the front desk simply said they don't do that anymore. Similarly, I also asked about games and DVD rental (which is specified as part of what is covered by the amenities fee on their website) and the front desk said they don't do that anymore either.

The hotel restaurant on-site does offer food options including breakfast that can be requested as room service, however ordering does not begin until 8am so it's not a viable option for early birds or anyone who has morning activities planned.

The room is generally great. The beds are very comfortable. The porch is a lovely place to take in the ocean breeze and enjoy a cup of the french press coffee they provide. 

However, some of the room's little details miss the mark. There is no creamer provided for the coffee. The mini refrigerator was so cold that it froze everything I put in it, including shattering a bottle. The bed sheets were fraying. The Inn formerly used EO bath products but now uses Public Goods brand which had some sort of clove scent that irritated my skin.

All said, I would still recommend staying at the Inn at Discovery Coast for new guests, but if you're a returning guest be aware that you should temper your expectations because the Inn has made some changes that may not be for the better.
